In Medieval Europe, the people fear vampires.

What do vampires fear?

Alexander Damascus is the last Neuri, a Spartan-like tribe bred as vampire hunters, with a hunger to destroy the undead. With his partner Demitra, they track Queen Adrielle. She has organized the vampire warriors into an army for expanding her empire.

Learning that Adrielle's enforcer, Verucious, has acquired fragments of an ancient map, the Vatican dispatches its own monster hunter mercenaries to reinforce Alexander against Verucious and his Dark Riders.

Alexander fights alongside the mercenaries while keeping his secret from them. Alexander's kind was the seed of all vampire blood. The Neuri sworn to hunt those spawned from the civil war they waged.

˃˃˃ Highly Entertaining - mizztara71, 4 1/2 stars.

"I'm a paranormal junkie lover. I especially love vampires and werewolves and Alpha Hunter has both. There was plenty of action and I loved the relationship between Alexander and Demetra. The supporting characters were well fleshed out and added to the depth of the story. The back story of the Arcadian King and the Neuri Tribe was intriguing. Alexander is the ultimate hunter. There was an added twist near the end that I didn't expect.

Although this is a novella, it felt more like a novel. I loved Gates and decided to give Alpha Hunter a try. I am very happy that I did.

I would highly recommend this story to any paranormal or horror lover and I look forward to reading Book 2."

˃˃˃ A good read if you like vampires and werewolves. - Firefly, 4 Stars

"One of the best books I have read. Lots of twists and turns. I'll be reading the other volumes in this series. I just have to see how the last volume of this series will end. As I have said before, I like a book that keeps me guessing and volume one sure had me guessing."

G.S. Luckett asked me to review his novel "Alpha Hunter". It is a vampire hunter story taking place in medieval Europe. I will examine plot, character and polish, and then assign a grade.

PLOT

The opening is great. It is mysterious without being pretentious, it is well described and sharp with language. It features a cinematic battle sequence. I could see it in my mind clearly. The phrase "Rule of Cool" is fitting for it, but it is also used to initiate the main plot.

The main plot is pretty and straightforward. There is this dead vampire that the bad guys want to revive in order rejuvenate their race and expand their territory. They need the pieces of this one map in order find his tomb. The heroes are trying to stop them by finding the pieces first. This is the reason for the pitched battles that take place.

You would think this is a standard You Can't Thwart Stage One, but you'd be wrong. Mr. Luckett plays with this trope in three ways, one for the heroes and two for the villains. They are nice twists that add a little life to a plot that is otherwise nothing but battle and exposition.

This book reads more like a movie script than a book. I imagine it would look amazing on screen, but on paper it falls flat more often then not. There is a battle, a little exposition, and then another battle in a new location. In that sense it is also like an early video game; the ones where the hero starts in a dungeon and spends 90% of the game fighting alone.

The ending has a satisfying conclusion. The current Evil Plan is averted (for now) but The Adventure Continues.

CHARACTERS

Characterization for everyone is scant. Alexander Damascus is this stoic action hero working on duty. Demitra is his faithful sidekick who is better at socializing. They're working with a couple mercenaries and a priest who have just enough characterization to be more than red shirts.

The villains are little better. There's Adrielle, the vampire Queen, and her two lieutenants. One of them is her treacherous personal attendant and the other is the loyal field leader of her army.

POLISH

Grammar and spelling are acceptable. It's not perfect and I found a couple errors but it's nothing serious enough to affect the grade.

Then there's the quality of the prose. The first and last scene are great in the way they are written. They are smooth and animated. It's a professional polish. The middle parts are just bland. Simple description without any life to them.

Alpha Hunter Neurian Scriptures Book 1 eBook GS Luckett Reviews

Because I enjoyed reading G. S. Luckett's Gates, I was eager to take a look at Alpha Hunter. In my opinion Alpha Hunter is an even better and more enjoyable novella that Gates. Although I liked Gates, this story intrigued me more, because I've always had a soft spot for well written vampire and werewolf stories that have been blended with fantasy elements.

Alpha Hunter is an intriguing combination of historical fantasy, dark fantasy and horror. It reads like an adventure story that has been blended with fantasy and horror elements.

Here's a bit of information about the story

Alpha Hunter opens with Alexander Damascus and his partner, Demetra, entering Castle Browmar that has been overrun by vampires. Alexander is looking for Queen Adrielle, because she is responsible for organizing the vampire clans... Queen Adrielle hears of what has happened at Castle Browmar... She wants to finds her King...

Because the synopsis of this novella is fairly thorough, I'm not going to reveal more information about the story. It wouldn't be fair to reveal everything to readers.

Alexander is an interesting protagonist, because he's a Neurian (he's of the Neuri tribe and he's a werewolf). Neurians have been trained to destroy vampires and keep them from spreading all over the world.

It was fun to read about the vampire and werewolf mythology. The author writes entertainingly about the past of the vampires and how vampires were created. The link between vampires and werevolves is interesting.

I enjoyed reading about what happens among Alexander's men and among the vampires. The author writes about these happenings in a fluent way and manages to keep the story flowing all the time without dull moments, which is quite an achievement. The character interaction also works surprisingly well.

Just like Gates, this novella has plenty of action in it. The action scenes have been written well, which is nice, because in certain stories they don't work at all. I think that readers who like fast-paced stories will enjoy this story very much.

I found it interesting that there was something in this novella that reminded me a bit of Justyna Plichta-Jendzio's Naor stories and slightly of the Underworld films. There were many differences (the most noticeable difference is that the happenings in this novella take place in the Eighth Century Europe), but there were a few similarities.

There are a few minor flaws in this novella and there's a bit of roughness around the edges, but on the whole it's good and thoroughly enjoyable entertainment. G. S. Luckett seems to be an author to watch, because he's capable of writing good and fast-paced entertainment. I look forward to reading more stories written by him.

I can recommend Alpha Hunter to readers who are interested in vampire and werewolf stories. This novella can also be recommended to readers who like historical fantasy.

Good entertainment!
At first I was not going to read this book. The book description on (which you can see above with a little bit of editing) was all over the place and poorly proofread. The storyline sounded intriguing, though, the vampires were 18th century ones, and it was only 96 pages, so I decided to give it a go.

This is an interesting and exciting story, but the writing and lack of editing makes it rough, sometimes difficult to read. It could definitely use some cleaning up, some tightening of the story, and some editing to fix the punctuation problems and the repetitive sentences. There are parts of the story that, even though they should be exciting with vampires and vampire hunters and all that good stuff, just seem a bit boring.

That being said, I did enjoy the characters and was impressed that the vampires were evil bastards, the way they should be. The whole idea of Alexander was a win and I liked how mysterious he was.

I do plan to read the next one in the series to find out more. This could be a much better story if the author will take the time to have it edited (there are lots of freelance ones out there).

Note I received a copy of this book in exchange for an unbiased review. No other consideration was offered, expected or received.
